Why I Created Midlife Rondavous: A New Chapter for Midlife Women Seeking Freedom & Adventure

The Moment That Changed Everything
I still remember the day the seed for my midlife reinvention was planted.
I was sitting at my desk, working on a book design for an author who had taken a year off to travel the world and volunteer. As I read through her manuscript, something inside me shifted. The way she described waking up in different countries, immersing herself in new cultures, and experiencing life on her own terms—it felt like a distant dream. But in that moment, it also felt like a possibility.
I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
But I told myself the same thing so many women do: Now isn’t the right time. I had responsibilities. Work. Family. A life I had already built. I convinced myself that maybe, someday, I’d do something like that, too.
For eight years, I planned, saved, and waited for the perfect moment.
Then, life gave me a different kind of wake-up call—my 21-year marriage ended.
Suddenly, everything I thought I was working toward no longer made sense. The house, the plans, the future I had mapped out—it was all gone. For the first time, I realized I had the chance to start over completely and embrace midlife reinvention.
So, I did.
At 53, I sold nearly everything, bought a backpack, and booked a one-way ticket to Costa Rica. My plan was simple: travel for a few months, volunteer along the way, and continue my work as a freelance book designer remotely.
But something unexpected happened.
After three months, I knew I couldn’t go back. I had never felt so free, so alive. The world felt open in a way it never had before, and I realized that the life I had been waiting for wasn’t something I needed permission to create.
That was nearly nine years ago. Since then, I’ve traveled full-time, worked remotely, and designed a life that truly feels like mine. And now, I want to help other midlife women do the same.
Midlife Isn’t the Closing Act—It’s the Plot Twist
For so long, we’ve been told that midlife is about settling down, staying safe, and accepting whatever routine we’ve built for ourselves. But what if that’s not true?
What if, instead of winding down, midlife is actually the beginning of something extraordinary? It can be a time for reinvention.
We’ve spent decades showing up for everyone else.
Careers. Partners. Kids. Aging parents.
We’ve given. Built. Sacrificed.
And somewhere along the way, we forgot about ourselves.
But here’s what I know now: we are allowed to want more.
More freedom. More adventure. More of what sets our souls on fire.
What if you stopped waiting for permission and chose yourself this time?
Why I Created Midlife Rondavous
I know how it feels to crave change but not know where to start. I know the fear, the uncertainty, and the million “what-ifs” that try to hold you back. That’s why I created Midlife Rondavous—not just as a blog but as a community and a guide for women who are ready to step into their next chapter with confidence and embrace midlife reinvention.
Here, we talk about the real stuff:
- How to navigate fear and self-doubt
- How to travel solo and create freedom in midlife
- How to break free from expectations and build a life that excites you
We’ll share stories, ideas, and most importantly—possibility. Because if I can do this, so can you.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing practical guides, real-life reinvention stories, and step-by-step ways to help you start designing your dream life—on your terms.
